Shapes are how kids first meet geometry. Yaze names each shape, counts its sides and corners, and then shows how shapes repeat to make patterns.

Circle, square, triangle, star.
Shape recognition should be about properties — sides, corners, curves — not silhouettes. Children who only ever see an upright equilateral triangle often deny that a long thin tilted one is a triangle. Usually ages three to six.

Repeating Patterns
What comes next?
Patterns train children to spot and describe a repeating unit, which is the same reasoning that later powers times tables and algebra. Copy, extend, then describe — describing is the hard part. Ages three to six.
