Coins
Skip count with money.
Coins are hard because value is not size: a small coin can be worth more than a big one, and one object can stand for many units. Counting mixed coins usually becomes reachable around ages five to eight.

Telling Time
Hours, halves, quarters.
An analogue clock asks a child to read two different scales on one dial, one of which counts in fives. Starting with o'clock and half past, then quarters, then five-minute intervals, suits ages four to eight.
